Congratulations to Safety Group Leader at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. John Sanders and EHS Lead at GE Aviation Brandy Marsh for receiving an Everyday Safety Hero Award at the annual Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards Luncheon in Indianapolis last week. The Everyday Safety Hero award recognizes individuals who have championed workplace safety and health excellence in their respective workplaces. It was developed to acknowledge and recognize the contributions, participation, and impact that a front-line employee plays in workplace safety and health excellence.
Sanders was recognized for contributions made in his volunteer position as president of the Greater Lafayette Area Safety Council (GLASC) since 2012. GLASC provides access to local monthly networking and educational speakers.
During his tenure, GLASC has grown its membership to over 60 companies with approximately 40 attendees at monthly meetings. Additionally, in 2022, he led an effort to donate PPE to the Greater Lafayette Career Academy, stock hats for children in the Bauer Community Center after-school program, and monetary donations to several other local nonprofits.
Marsh was recognized for her vested time in developing the EHS program and building up the knowledge and confidence of those around her including technicians as well as other staff including the EHS specialist on-site. She has been able to build a team that is able to help push EHS forward in leading the site to a safer work environment.
Marsh led a team last year to the Ergo Cup, won a trophy and a few technicians that went with her learned quite a bit at the conference coming back ready to help improve the site. She has started the ergo committee as well as helped jump-start the on-site wellness program. She has also taken on the challenge of taking the site to the next level by working towards VPP certification for the site.
The Greater Lafayette Area Safety Council and Ejendals (https://www.ejendals.com/) joined forces to distribute Personal Protective Equipment to the Greater Lafayette Career Academy at 2201 S 18th St, Lafayette, IN (https://www.glcareeracademy.com/) (@GLCareerAcademy) students on march 7th.
